Create and sell your digital artwork on Portion, using the Palm network.

Today's market NFTs bring innate accessibility and opportunity to creators in almost any region of the world and any creative vertical, with the only issues being large transactional fees (gas-fees) and the carbon footprint on the environment. Until now, these two issues have been synonymous with creating and selling NFTs, before L2 Ethereum side-chain solutions such as Palm were introduced.

Since 2016, Portion has been building a platform to support the diverse spectrum of creative communities; creating a place for NFTs before the term NFT existed in mainstream culture. Built by Artists for the Artists, Portion is always innovating to ensure the barriers to entry are reduced, whilst increasing opportunities for all. Today, Portion is running on both Ethereum and the newly introduced Palm: offering creators the opportunity to mint and sell their work, sustainably.

The Palm network was built to make blockchain creativity accessible; to remove barriers to entry by limiting gas costs and providing a 99.99+% reduction in energy consumption versus Proof of Work systems. Palm’s goal is to support the next generation of artists, and power the creative marketplaces of the future: starting with Portion.

If you’ve never minted an NFT before, now’s a good time to get started. NFTs are one-of-a-kind digital objects built on blockchain technology. Minting an NFT is how your art or creation becomes part of the blockchain; in this case, Palm. Through this action, you assign your artwork provenance, you verify its authenticity, you timestamp it into eternity, and you enable it to be purchased, traded, and digitally tracked.  The NFTs you mint on Portion are tied directly to your wallet, which means you’ll be able to hold and manage your funds directly.

You are able to mint on both the Palm and Ethereum networks in your Portion account, depending where you wish your creations to live, needless to say minting on Palm reduces all gas fees and saves the environment. If you'd like a guide on how to mint NFTs on Portion using the Ethereum network, see this guide.

We’re here to help you get set up on Portion, so that you can start selling your work and reaching new audiences.

How do I mint an NFT on Portion?

1. Configure Palm in your wallet, and Navigate to Portion.

To get started, you’ll need a wallet. While there are many wallet options available, we recommend MetaMask. It’s a browser extension for accessing Ethereum-enabled decentralized applications (Dapps).

Go to the Palm App to get MetaMask, and configure Palm. Once you have added Palm to your MetaMask wallet, head over to Portion. You’re ready to start minting NFTs.

Note that minting on Portion is desktop only, so you’ll want to be on your computer, not your phone. 💻

2. Connect your wallet and add profile details.

Click Connect Wallet and choose from the available options. Connecting your MetaMask wallet to Portion allows you to buy and sell NFTs on site. It also allows you to mint your digital art as an NFT. When you sell your work, the proceeds will go directly into your wallet.

Connect your Wallet

Once you've connected your wallet, click your profile icon in the top right, navigate to Profile and add your name, email, and artist bio.

Note: In order to be eligible to receive free PALM tokens for gas fees, please ensure your email is validated.

3. PALM and Portion offset the cost of gas fees.

Palm’s unique consensus mechanism allows the network to offer affordable transactions for users, while maintaining a near 0% carbon footprint. That means minting your digital artwork as an NFT doesn’t come with the traditional costs. Palm subsidizes gas fees when new accounts are created on Portion. Your account will automatically be funded with PALM tokens to cover gas fees upon minting your artwork.

Additionally, any users who transfer assets to Palm will have their accounts topped up with PALM tokens. And Portion’s commitment to creators includes a reward of 500 Portion tokens ($PRT) for each successful mint. Note: all creators receive 500 $PRT for every mint on Ethereum, but only verified creators will receive these rewards for mints on the Palm network.

4. Submit your NFT.

Click Create on the top panel. First, add your file. Note: file must be under 40MB in file size and under 40MB in megapixels. Note that while a zip file can technically be uploaded, it can’t be minted as an NFT. Give your piece a title, description, and assign it a category. Note: Currently we accept GLB (binary GLTF files) for 3D models. We also support AR (using mobile), but in these cases the model should be below 35MB and have less than 15k polygons.

Next, specify the size of your edition. Based on the quantity you input, it will automatically switch between the corresponding token contracts: ERC-721 for 1/1s, and ERC-1155 for editions.

Now, you’re ready to mint your NFT. Click Submit My Creation. A window will appear to confirm.

Once you’ve minted your NFT, it’s part of the Palm blockchain in perpetuity. All transactions recorded on a blockchain are irreversible; that’s what makes them so secure. If you need to make changes to your NFT after minting, you can “burn”, or permanently destroy, the token. To avoid having to burn your NFT, be as careful as possible throughout the minting process.

5. Approve your address to sell tokens.

To start selling your NFTs, click the top right menu and go to My Collection. Approve your address (which will require a tiny amount payment of PALM in gas fees), and this will allow you to list your NFT art for sale in Portion's marketplace.

6. List your NFT art for sale.

Within My Collection, you'll find your NFT with a button List for Sale. Set your price in WETH, click the checkbox if you would like to also accept $PRT as payment, and click Sell. Once you approve (sign) this final transaction, it will be available for sale in the Portion Gallery.

Congrats! You just minted your first NFT on Portion, with Palm! ヽ(>∀<☆)ノ Stay tuned for future posts about marketing, royalties, and more.
